So today I'm going to show you guys a real life example of keyword research for your Google business profile. This is a real uh dispensary. They do delivery out in Massachusetts and they're one of my clients with revenue kit. So I'm just helping them out. This isn't a service I normally offer. Um but for you know my closer clients that need some help. I'm happy to help a lending hand. So Blaze Express, he called me. He's upset he's not ranking in Google.
And I said, "Let me look into it for you. Let me see what we could come up with." So, first of all, we're going to take into account their positioning, right? So, they're close to Springfield in Massachusetts, and I know he really, really wants to rank for Springfield, right? They do deliver all the way over there, and uh, you know, it's obviously the biggest city in the area. So, if you notice on his website, you know, Express Weed Delivery Service and Springfield MA, it's one of the main things that they're trying to rank for. It's a top like headline on their website. But I looked into it and where they're actually located is Holy Oak, right? So, it's Holy Oak, MA. It's a little ways away from Springfield, but this is going to be far enough for Google to demote your listing over other businesses that are actually located in Springfield, right? So, it's always going to be an uphill battle for him. If somebody is searching, you know, uh dispensary near me or dispensary Springfield, always always the uh you know, dispensaries actually closer to the city center are going to have a higher chance of ranking above him no matter what he does. So, this is part of the keyword research. The first thing I did is I'm going to go into this tool, SEM Rush.
This is a paid tool. They're pretty expensive. It's $1.99 a month, but they do have a free trial. You could also use this free tool on seanking.com. I'll link everything below. Uh, and it's a free keyword research tool. So, you'll get some of the way here. If you want to dive in a little bit deeper, you could use a paid tool like SEM Rush. So, the first thing I did is I typed in dispensary Holio. The idea here is if there's enough search volume in Holio, then why don't we just target Holio, right? And honestly, it's a lot better than he made it seem. It's a decent amount of volume.
We have Holio Dispensary 5,400. Uh, searches every single month. Holio dispensaries has another 1,600. Dispensary Holio MA has another,300. So, he does have a lot of volume to work with just in Holio. And his chances of getting ranked in Holio are going to be a lot higher as well. You see the the KD percentage uh basically it's the keyword difficulty percentage. They rate this a 43 out of 100, right? A 48 and a 49 out of 100.
It's not out of reach, right? We're not looking at like 80s or 90s. Um the keyword difficulty is still moderate, but the volume is pretty high from what I've seen, right? If you search a certain city's dispensary, 5,400 uh searches every single month is pretty high. So, what we start to do is we start to go in and we start to look at the keywords and see what we could rank for, right? So, that's the first thing I noticed. Holio uh keywords, there's enough volume there to work with and I basically make a list and I start adding them all to the list. That's what these check marks are. So we have Holio dispensary, Holio dispensaries dispensary, Holio, Holio cannabis dispensary. Okay, so that's noted. A lot of these are pretty similar. Okay.
Um, I noticed Holio Weed dispensary is actually at the bottom of the list. So these are kind of the intricacies you'll start to notice. Some cities they like to use the word weed. Some cities like to use the word marijuana. Other cities like to use the word cannabis. One thing I noticed by doing this keyword research is cannabis kind of pops up again and again. The weed dispensary only has 70 um you know keyword searches every single month and weed dispensary Holio MA has another 70, right? That's nothing compared to the volume up here. So we have broad match. We can also look at phrase match. Okay guys, so this gives us a little bit more. Um, so, you know, still a lot of the same keywords again, weed dispensary at the bottom of the list and related. Um, I believe this is where I found out how often cannabis is being used as a as a as a as a word, right? So, let's see if I could find some of these.
Um, if we go, you know, we're going to filter by volume. So, the highest volume is going to be at the top. And then we're also going to make sure it includes the keyword uh holio, right? Because obviously um soulflower, you know, has 27,000 searches every single month, but that doesn't apply to us whatsoever, right? We want local intent search terms, people that are searching Holio specifically. So if we see here, we have Holio Dispensary at number one and then Holio cannabis is number two. 3,600 search results every single month or search searches every single month. Holio Cannabis Dispensaries also up there, 880 uh searches every single month. So, there's a couple things that the keyword research like reveal to us, right? One thing is that Holio does have enough searches and enough of a population that want cannabis uh for us to focus on Holio instead of Springfield, which is great for us because we're going to have a higher chance of succeeding with those keywords anyways since the proximity, the location of the business is actually in Holio, not Springfield. The other thing is they use a search term cannabis a lot, right? So we have Holio Cannabis Dispensary. Holio cannabis is actually the second ranking keyword, right? Uh in in terms of volume just right under Holio dispensary. So those are the things I learned. You know, we add everything to a list. You know, I'm kind of in this process, I'm kind of just seeing, okay, I'm adding I'm adding.
It's kind of a loose process here. But then we could go to the keyword strategy builder, right? Find our list, click on it, and we could look at everything that we kind of tagged. And if we sort by volume, this is where we could start to see what keywords we really want to rank for. So we have Holio dispensary, that's going to be number one. Holio cannabis. A lot of these are very similar like Holio dispensaries dispensary Holio MA.
Then we have Holio Cannabis Dispensary. Right? So again, this cannabis word keeps sticking out. The other thing is he's a delivery service, right? So, he's actually the first licensed delivery service in the uh in the state of Massachusetts. Uh the problem with that, it sounds great on paper, but the problem with that is a lot of people don't even know delivery exists, right? They don't know that business model exists in the state of Massachusetts. And he was telling me this and when I was doing the keyword research, so if we go back to the keyword magic tool, I you know, I looked it up. This is part of the research process. So, I looked up, you know, cannabis delivery uh holio, right? You can't just do delivery holio because that could be any delivery, right? Food delivery, flower delivery, so on and so forth.
And he's right, right? So, canvas delivery holio. Look at this. There's no keywords that basically pop up for that. And the top keyword has a volume of 30. Okay, so immediately it's an uphill battle, right? There's no point in even trying to rank for that keyword. And that's another thing that I learned. You know, even the phrase match and even the um you know, related keywords could not find any data. It's it's a ghost town, right? So, there's another thing that I learned from that process, from the keyword research process.
Then once you have your keywords, right? So, you know, once you have your keywords, you're looking at your list, you kind of start to build the things that you want to rank for. What I do is I come up with a title, right? And the title that I came up with, um, I guess I'll just paste it in here for you guys to see. This is what we're going to name his, uh, Google business profile. Blaze Express Holio cannabis dispensary delivery. The delivery is kind of pointless, especially with these, uh, search terms, but I do want to add it in there as like a clarifying factor. Um, you know, so people don't think it is an actual dispensary that they could walk into. But this is basically going to cover most of the basis in terms of the keywords that I added to the list here.
This is basically a good summary of those keywords. And then of course, not just the name of the Google business profile, but the description. We're going to optimize as well to include as many of these keywords as we can. Um, you know, we're writing full sentences, right? Like, uh, Blaze Express is considered one of the best dispensaries in Holio MA, right? That's how we would write a sentence to target this specific keyword. So, in the description, you're allowed to type in keywords. You're allowed to, you know, do all of that.
But in your Google business profile, you're technically not supposed to. Your Google business profile is just to say like Blaze Express, for example, is just supposed to be the name of your business. Um, but if you want a kind of safe way of doing it, what you could do is you could register a DBA for your business. So he might have a DBA that he operates under Blaze Express. He can register another you know DBA doing business as Blaze Express Holio Cannabis Dispensary Delivery. And if that's your actual DBA, then you'll be more safe.
You know, you'll be more covered if uh Google flags your profile and says, "Hey, this is not your business name." So let's look at his current business name. And you could see the problem right away, right? We have Blaze Express free delivery dispensary, right? That is not doing much for him in terms of ranking for those keywords that we want to rank for. We look at his website Blaze Express we deliver Delivery Service in Springfield MA. Right? Again, that is not doing much for him in terms of ranking for the keywords that we actually want him to rank for. And this was doing some competitive research. So, we went in, we looked at the delivery services in their area and we saw what are they ranking for, right? So, Canop Provisions is a pretty um you know, popular store in their area. They're trying to ring for weed dispensary, Holio. We have this other one, Holio Cannabis Dispensary. It's straight up the name of their business. Um this one is a delivery service, Blossom Flower Delivery Dispensary, Cannabis Weed Marijuana. Not great, right? I wouldn't recommend that. Sometimes people just like to spam keywords like you know they're doing without doing the actual keyword research to see why are you using those keywords in your name right what keywords you specifically want to target that's what you should put in your name even like Canada provisions weed dispensary holio I mean let's see let's see how much search volume this keyword gets so we would go to keyword magic tool weed dispensary holio so for this specific specific keyword can of provisions weed dispensary holio they do get a lot of volume probably because they have a large customer base already but just the keyword weed dispensary holio doesn't get any volume right 10 searches a month so honestly I wouldn't even recommend that they use that right they might want to switch the term weed to cannabis uh it just seems like more people in this area use that as a search term instead of weed so we did the keyword research you know we kind of looked at his profile we kind identified, you know, what's wrong with his name. Um, I don't see that he has a description here. So, that's another problem just in general. Um, you know, his website is targeting the wrong keywords. You know, we looked at the competitors to see what keywords they're trying to target to see if we can get any ideas as to what's working for his competitors. That was all part of the keyword research process. Now, once we do all that, we want to, you know, basically look at all of the keywords that we put together and come up with a list of the primary keywords that we want to target, right? So, in this case, I want to target Holio dispensary, Holio cannabis, and Holio cannabis dispensary because they're all related. What we're going to do now is take those three keywords and we're going to do a uh map rank tracking on those keywords to see where he currently stands for those keywords. Okay, so again, SCM Rush is a tool that you could use for this. It's a it's a paid tool. You could also go to revenuekit.com.
This is a free tool that I created to run a free audit of your Google business profile rankings. So, it's the same concept, right? You're going to search for the business, in this case, Blaze Express. Um, you're going to type in the keywords that you want to rank for, you know, and click continue. And it'll let you do up to three uh keyword maps right here for free on revenuekit.com. Just click on free SEO audit. But, you know, I I paid for this tool, so I'm going to use the paid tool, right? So, we're going to click on setup heatmap, and it's the same process.
We're going to type in Blaze Express. This is not my first time using it. In this case, we're creating a campaign and we're going to add those three keywords. The map, uh, we want to change this to miles and we want to do 5 miles. Okay. Uh, most consumers shop within 5 miles of their area, right? So, I believe there's a stat here. Um, I think it's something like 72% or something like that. Shop mainly within 5 miles of their area, the local consumer. I'm just going to do a 7 by7.
I think that's good enough. And we could even set it to scan on a schedule. So, I might want to do monthly on on the first of every month. We're going to we're going to scan this, right? We'll click create campaign. That's going to take a minute or two to actually run the audit. So, I'll see you guys back in a second. And I'll just pause the video here and uh you know we'll run the audit and we'll see the results. All right. So, we actually ended up having some technical difficulties with the paid tool. I'm not sure what's going on. So, I ended up using my free tool instead. They both do the same thing. What they do is they search for the specific keyword that you entered, right? So, Holio dispensary for this scan report and they give you a map that looks like this. What this map is is shows you where you're ranking for that keyword in each one of these areas.
So the software pretends to be a user in each one of these dots, it'll search for the keyword and then it'll tell you where your business showed up, what position you were in. So in this case, if somebody searches Holio Dispensary, he is not popping up at all. He is past the 20th position. The map is all red. You know, we normally want to see some greens, maybe some yellows and oranges, but red is the worst, right? The greens would be if you're in first place or second place or third place. The yellows will show you if you're on the first page, if you're within the first 10 results. And then, you know, the red is 20 plus, right? Nobody's seeing you.
You're you're basically non-existent. So, that's not great news, but not surprising, right? He was obviously upset for a reason. Let's go check out the other scan report. This is for Holio Cannabis specifically as you can see right here. And again, all reds. So, not looking great. And another one for Holio Cannabis Dispensary. All reds. So, as you can see, he was very valid in being stressed out and upset and calling me asking for help. Clearly, he's not showing up for the three main keywords that we actually want him to show up for after doing that keyword research. So, we got a lot of work to do, but the good thing is we've identified some obvious like problems, right? Obvious areas that we can improve on. And we can run this scan report once a month after we've made our improvements and use this as a KPI, right? We can see and track exactly where he was before we started doing our local SEO strategies on him and where he's going to end up after. So, that's it for this video. Hope you guys learned something new today. Any questions, comments, concerns, leave them below.
And until next time, I'll see you guys later.
